Training Facilities

Training for Justices of the Peace in The Bahamas is supported through structured programmes designed to provide essential legal knowledge and practical guidance. One of the primary training locations is the Eugene Dupuch Law School, where a dedicated, face-to-face Justice of the Peace Programme is conducted.

This programme provides participants with a comprehensive understanding of their duties, including administering oaths, witnessing signatures, and handling legal documentation with accuracy and professionalism.

Pathway to Becoming a Justice of the Peace

Justices of the Peace in The Bahamas are appointed by the Governor-General following a formal process that includes application, vetting, and review.

As part of this process:

  • Applicants may be required to complete relevant training

  • Applications are submitted through the appropriate authorities, including the Attorney-General’s Office

  • Background checks, such as police clearance, are required

  • Final appointments are made upon approval
